Storm Damage Guide
How to file a roof insurance claim
Filing a storm damage claim isn't complicated, but the order of operations matters. Here's the process we walk Kentucky homeowners through every storm season.
1. Get a professional inspection first
Before you call your insurance company, know what you're claiming. Our HAAG-certified inspectors document hail bruising, wind creasing, and collateral damage (vents, gutters, screens) with photos — free, and with an honest answer if the damage doesn't justify a claim.
2. Review your policy
Check your deductible, whether your policy pays replacement cost (RCV) or actual cash value (ACV), and any time limits for storm claims — in Kentucky these are often one to two years from the date of loss.
3. File the claim
Call your carrier or file online with the storm date and our inspection findings. You'll receive a claim number and an adjuster appointment.
4. Meet the adjuster — with us there
We attend the adjuster meeting whenever possible so the damage we documented gets seen. HAAG certification carries weight in this conversation, and it keeps the scope honest in both directions.
5. Review the settlement and scope
Once the carrier issues its estimate, we reconcile it against our scope. If items were missed, we submit supplements with documentation — you shouldn't settle for a partial repair on a full-replacement loss.
6. Restoration
We schedule the work, install your new GAF roof system, and provide the completion documentation your carrier needs to release any remaining (recoverable depreciation) funds.
A note on honesty: not every storm justifies a claim. If your damage is below your deductible or cosmetic only, we'll tell you — filing marginal claims can affect your premiums without buying you anything.
